This newly revitalized space, which forms part of the larger St. Lawrence Market in Toronto’s Old Town, offers a dynamic and innovative environment where local farmers, butchers, and small businesses can showcase their wares and connect with customers.

Introducing St. Lawrence Market North: Toronto’s New Local Shopping Hub

St. Lawrence Market North represents the culmination of ten years of planning, design, and labour. In 2016, the old Market North building was torn down to make way for a new structure, with the popular Saturday Farmer’s Market it hosted moving to a nearby tent. Construction on the new space faced repeated delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, supply chain challenges, and design changes and modernization – but according to vendors and visitors alike, the state-of-the-art venue was well worth the wait.

Standing an impressive five stories high, the North Market building features a green roof to enhance sustainability, electric vehicle chargers, and multilevel underground parking with 250 spaces, ensuring ample visitor capacity. Adamson & Associates LTD., the architecture firm responsible for designing the building, also incorporated as much natural light as possible to create “an open indoor market that resembles a fresh, outdoor setting.”

Inside, visitors will be treated to a vast array of locally-made produce and products; everything from artisan cheese to coffee, craft beer, farm-fresh fruit and vegetables, specialty butcher items, and menu items from local restaurants (including Bindia) will be available. The new Market North building will be open seven days a week and feature merchants, trade shows, and other events, along with hosting the popular Saturday Farmer’s Market. At a time when shoppers are increasingly seeking Canadian-made products, St. Lawrence Market North promises to provide a thriving local merchant hub that serves as an essential link in Ontario’s food supply chain.

As an esteemed Indian bistro in Toronto, Bindia is excited to showcase its authentic flavours and innovative dishes on May 10th, 2025, during the Special Grand Opening Community Event at St. Lawrence Market North. Join us as we celebrate the rich heritage of Indian cuisine with our new spring menu, which puts a modern twist on several beloved Indian classics.

Some of our featured menu items for April include:

Shrimp Korma: Succulent prawns seasoned with onion, ginger, and garlic, served in rich cashew cream curry sauce. This gluten and dairy-free meal pairs perfectly with rice.

Chicken 65: Tender boneless chicken pieces cooked slowly with onions, green peppers and spices in an aromatic masala sauce, creating a medley of sweet, spicy, and savoury flavours.

Crab Cakes: Crispy golden crab cake patties flavoured with traditional Indian spices and goat cheese for a unique “East meets West” update of this seafood staple. Served with a side of fresh salad.

Watermelon Salad: Perfect for spring, Bindia’s watermelon salad blends baby spinach, watermelon, cucumber and feta cheese for a light, crunchy bite with a delicately sweet finish.

Bindia is located adjacent to the St. Lawrence Market, making it easy to enjoy a satisfying sit-down meal at our locally-owned Indian Bistro after a day of shopping. In celebration of spring, we will be offering a special 10% off business lunch discount for groups over 20 people – the perfect complement to our popular Event Packages. Every Friday night, we also bring the Market to life with the sound of music from some of Canada’s best artists during our Friday Live Music Nights. Drift away on the mellow ambiance of classic jazz music while sampling our signature Indian-themed cocktails, such as the Spicy Margarita and Mango Martini, and nibbling delectable appetizers.

To qualify for FeastOn Certification, restaurants must source at least 25% of their inventory from Ontario vendors. Whenever possible, we purchase produce, spices, dairy products, and other ingredients right here in Southern Ontario for farm-to-table freshness.
